Upside-Down Beach House, NY
Fire Island, NY
This new oceanfront four bedroom vacation home is sited on the barrier island of the south shore of Long Island. The program goals are simple; optimize the engagement of view and open space on the upper living/public floor, while maximizing the number of sleeping quarters for guests below. With limited budget, material choices were derived from the common vernacular of the northeast beach house tradition with a modern flair. Sited along the national sea shore and working within a restrictive building envelope, the design centered on taking advantage of breathtaking ocean views, ocean breezes and the westerly sunsets.
